Biotechnology
Biotechnology can help solve many problems of the modern world: finding sources for renewable energy production, fight environmental pollution, designing more effective drugs, economically produce bio-molecules for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, and yield more effective food control.
The OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) has estimated that by 2030 biotechnology will contribute to the production of more than 80% of pharmaceutical products, 35% of chemical and industrial products, and 50% of agricultural products with an estimated impact of 2.7% of global GDP.
Subjects of Study
Among the materials studied are: Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Animal and Plant Biotechnology, Chemistry (General, Organic and Physical), Chemistry of Fermentations, -omic Disciplines (Genomics, Proteomics and Transcriptomics), Pharmacology and Principles Pharmacogenomics , Genetics, Immunology and Pathophysiology, Genetic Engineering, General and Applied Microbiology, Regulations and Bioethics, Biotechnology, Food Safety, Technology, Biopharmaceuticals, and Molecular Virology.
To achieve greater characterization of the preparation of the student, the training in Biotechnology is organized to provide, in the third year, content related to specific biotechnological fields, such as agriculture, veterinary, pharmaceutical, industrial, and the doctor who will be obtained by choosing one of the four curricula: a) Agricultural-Veterinary; b) Pharmaceutical; c) Molecular, Cellular and Environmental; d) Medical.
Teaching Methods
Theoretical teaching and multimedia are supported by various activities and practical laboratory experiences that are an important part of the degree course.
