Molecular Biology
Our degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Padua belongs to the L-13 class of Biological Sciences, shares 62 CFU with the Biology degree, has limited enrollment, and is organized into a single curriculum.
Characteristics and Purposes
The curriculum aims to deepen the understanding of the molecular and biochemical bases of many biological processes.
The Molecular Biology degree, although characterized by a strong focus in molecular aspects, is also associated with an integrated view of the biological world both at the cellular and organismic level (including human).
The Molecular Biology degree fulfills the prerequisites for the Master of Science in Molecular Biology and Health Biology (limited enrollment). It also fulfills the prerequisites for the Master of Science in Evolutionary Biology, again as part of the training at the University of Padua.
Subjects of Study
The training program aims to achieve the basic knowledge necessary to continue with a Master of Science in the same subject. It provides in the first year all the basic teachings useful for an immediate understanding of the biological world: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, computer science, statistics; it also provides teaching in biological content that introduces the characteristics and organization of the living, the fundamentals of evolutionary theory, and the tools of classification. The next two years instead develops the functional aspects of cellular and molecular organization of life, through the teachings of cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, plant biology, developmental biology, microbiology, immunology, and general physiology; Students are also trained in the use of bioinformatics and molecular approaches in the various disciplines.
Career Opportunities
Graduates in Molecular Biology will have direct access to the working world to carry out professional activities and techniques related to analysis, control, and management of productive and technological activities in laboratories and public and private services, in particular in the laboratories of the pharmaceutical industry, agro-food, and biotechnology. They can also work in research laboratories and bioinformatics services. Graduates may enroll (after passing the state exam) at Albo for as a section B biologist, under the professional title of junior biologist, for the activities coded.
