            Statistics for Technology and Science

The degree in Statistics for Technology and Sciences provides interdisciplinary training in statistics, mathematics and computer science, with insights into the latest advances in information technology and modern techniques of online data acquisition. The application areas of interest are varied and range from technological-experimental to medical, biological, and to environmental health. Training activities allow students to acquire all the expendable skills, for example, (i) the application of statistical quality control of products and services and the assessment of the ability of manufacturing processes; (ii) in information management and statistical analysis of big data; (iii) the design of algorithms and data structures, as well as the architecture and programming of computer systems; (iv) in the application of statistical analysis of data from observational and experimental studies typical of epidemiology and clinical research.

Courses: Technology, Big Data, Biostatistics, Methodological

This degree has free access with mandatory testing. The exam is only for guidance and does not affect the admission.

            Subjects of Study

Mathematical analysis, linear algebra, probability, computer systems, databases, statistics, statistical models, time series, analysis of multidimensional data, sampling, operational research, computational statistics, statistical models for technology and experimental research methods, statistical data about big data, algorithms and data structures, statistical quality control, medical statistics, epidemiology, and bio-demography. Students may complete training by choosing their own courses.

            Career Opportunities

Graduates in Statistics for Technology and Sciences can find professions in several areas: manufacturing companies/services/businesses, computer companies, consulting firms, pharmaceutical companies, research institutes, bio-medical companies, professional offices, laboratories, as well as public and private institutions. In line with their own interests and attitudes, students have the opportunity to specialize in key statistical applications in technology and quality control, biomedical and healthcare, information technology and data management. With these skills, graduates can find employment as statistical technicians prepared to work and apply their knowledge in industrial, medical, biological, environmental, or any general scientific field. Those specializing in biostatistics will find employment in pharmaceutical companies, medical facilities, government agencies, organizations and research institutes.

            From Bachelor to Master

At the end of the first year, the student can choose one of the routes proposed by the degree course. No matter which path is chosen, at the end of the three years students will obtain a bachelor’s degree and can continue with the degree (see www.stat.unipd.it/studiare/requisiti-di-ammissione to requirements admission).

The degree program is a revision and rationalization of existing degree programs.
